We got a cat and it chewed or clawed my ruby ball cactus top..it looks to be shriveling up...the stalk seems fine..how can i save it?
I don't think you can, there is very little that can be done for a cactus that starts to shrivel. If the cause is rot there is nothing to do. If it is just water loss you can only hope that the stock can provide enough water to the grafted cactus (and perhaps give it some water).
Ugh not what i wanted to hear lol...i got this for a mothers day gift from my step daughter...i just wish it could be saved. But now the stalk is turning different colors even.
It is rotting from the top, and the infection has probably already spread to all interesting parts of the plant. The only way to save that is to cut off one of the offsets (if a healthy one can be found) the grafted part and regraft it on another plant, but that is difficult and not worth the effort. Well, these grafts are usually short-lived anyway. They often rot from the bottom.
