Does anyone know the root depth of carrots? I am hoping to plant some around the electrical transformer in my front yard. The electric company says that the lines are buried 3 feet under the ground but I have also built up the bed another foot.

I guess I'm wondering if the carrot roots go down that far.

    Thanks.

I know carrots roots can go a long way, but I doubt that they go down 3 feet. You could always grow some short varieties.

I have dug up a lot of carrots and never seen one that went more than 1.5 feet including everything. Generally a lot less than that.
