I went looking for some photos of Carpinus fangiana a while ago, and found very few, and what I had were not in focus. I have finally taken some photos I like of this tree, and I'm posting them.
I wanted to post some photos of the Carpinus fangiana because I heard Douglas Justice say the species name on his members walk last month. It seems it's not fan-gee-anna, like what I've been saying, but more like fong-ee-anna. I see that the species epithet is named for botanist Fang Wen-Pei, see Carpinus fangiana | Botany Photo of the Day (ubc.ca), for whom one of the garden trails is named. I took these photos at the beginning of September. I was trying to show the seeds. There were still some two days ago. Last month I also remembered to notice the Carpinus rankanensis, with catkins about a quarter the size. It's not so easily approachable.
