The attached was very unusual looking. The flower heads are coming through the surface of the soil and the foliage is a strange green color, similar to what you might see in an artificial plant. The plant is barely above the ground, perhaps 2-3 cm in height, and the flower head is about the diameter of a quarter.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

Harold did you touch it to see if it was plastic? Behind it to the left is a green plastic tube/handle. The "flower" is so very dirty and full of bits, that it looks as if it has been lying there for some time, rather than something that Mother nature has just produced.
Praps it is the very rare Plasticus rosea minutum.

No I didn't ( and I'm going to be red-faced if it is artificial)

It was in the midst of woodland and looked undisturbed but perhaps that is the answer. I'll try to hunt it down and find out.

My initial thought was that it may be saprophytic, as it had the look of a plant like Coralroot.

Thanks for your help, I'll try to find it again and check that out.

The leaves above the flower can also be seen to be plastic.
