Hi everyone - I've sort of settled down now...and am now located on the westcoast of Canada. And would like to refocus all of my semi-retired efforts on this Hobby of mine - growing carnivorous plants. I've been growing them for approx. 40 years, and used to have one of the largest collections in Canada. I have met up with a few folks in and around BC, and would be interested in hearing from anyone else out there...especially us Canadians - as trading in these plants are highly regulated across international borders - phytosanitary, CITES etc. I currently grow Sarracenia and Nepenthes on the coast. I hope to trade/sell a few plants over the course of this summer. One last note ...any of you from the old BBS "Hortus Botanicus"? I was one of the old regulars until the world got connected to the "internet".
Hey flytrap - not to sure if there are many Hortus Botanicus members on here, though I know Jim stops by every few months on the boards. I find it very interesting that UBC used to run a BBS - and now we're one of the only gardens to have discussion forums.
Thanks for your prompt reply Daniel...I sort of remember Jim, I think there was also a Bob...but can't remember who was the Sysop. Can i post photos of my plants onto this forum/board? If so, how does one go about doing it.
Re: photos, absolutely. Here's the how-to: http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=725 Likely the best place is the Photography and Art section for the time being. As for the sysop, I have it recorded as Jim MacPhail from UBC: http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/education/hortline.php
Yes... it was Jim. I checked that link you placed, and didn't find any mention of Jim. I assume he is well and still out at UBC....maybe he's on the other end of the Hortline (!). Wonder if I should just call and say hello.
Check out the 1990-1994 entry. Unfortunately, Jim retired before I arrived - but I think you can send him a private message through the UBC forums and maybe he'll pop by, though I'll be darned if I can figure out what his user name is.
