My beloved caricature plant (at least I think that's what it is) has taken a turn for the worse and I'm not quite sure why. The leaves have become almost transparent and are falling off quite rapidly. It looks like it's been overwatered but there's a black sticky residue which appears to be coming from the bottoms of the leaves. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Heather
Hello, Would this be the plant? http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/interiorscape/Graptophyllum_pictum.html Sounds like it has a pest or disease. I don't know what though. Look closely at the leaves, with magnification if possible and the roots and soil. If you can attach a photo that may help.
Hmm, no. I think perhaps it's a Dieffenbachia after all. Can't see any bugs or anything. It has been outside recently so could be a disease but I wondered if overwatering could have this sort of effect. Does it ever cause the leaves to rot whilst on the stem because it looks a bit like that? Taken some pictures but I don't think they're detailed enough. Thanks for your help so far. Whatever it is, my spider plant appears to have it too. Aaarg! Heather
