We have a very large weeping cherry tree. It is perhaps 40 years old. More than 10 years ago cables were installed to support its limbs. It has been pruned many times over the years and some of these cuts have resulted in rotting cavities. In a recent story one large limb broke off. What should be done to preserve this tree?

Apparently being overpruned. Talk to a certified arborist about the rotting, to see if they think anything can be done.
