This seems like a good development if the advertising is true, but these potatoes don't seem to be available in this area. Has anyone on this forum bought any, and what is the opinion regarding taste? If they are as good as they say, I would like to try growing them. However, I wonder if they are treated to prevent sprouting.
They'll be available December 1, 2025 in Canada according to https://www.earthfreshfoods.com/butter/.
Thanks, Junglekeeper, I believed the first link that said that they are already available in Canada. Never trust the Web without extensive searching. And I would be happy if it's a GMO.
Currently there's no mention of this product at CBAN (Canadian Biotechnology Action Network): https://cban.ca/gmos/products/not-on-the-market/potato/. If this were a non-GMO product I would have thought EarthFresh would jump on the opportunity to promote that fact. The silence is perplexing.
These potatoes are "All natural" according to Potato Gazette: https://potatogazette.com/product/earthfresh-launches-butter-potatoes-across-north-america/.
It would be interesting to see nutrition information about those new butter potato varieties. As nutritional data of different potato varieties varies a lot (Poster_150x107), maybe the fat content of the butter potato is actually higher than usual. The fat percentage of potatoes is usually pretty low, from 0.0 g per 100 g, to 0.3 g per 100 g. What's the percentage for butter potatoes?
