I am so sad that my 2.5 year old aloe that was doing great - seems to have wet rotted through the root! I hardly water it, so Im not sure how it happened.

Can you do a 'cutting' or something else to save an aloe when this has happened?

    Thanks!

You could try taking it out of the soil completely and let it dry for a few days, then put it back in a suitable, well draining medium...

    OH!
I'd better go get it out of the glass of water I put it in.

    Thanks for the tip!

I had an aloe that was very old and leggy from years of poor conditions. When it got better conditions it really started to grow and become very top heavy. I decided to cut if off and re root it. I wasn't sure if it was going to take but after a month or so it started to pu out new leaves and now it is a great looking plant and it has started to pup again. I used some powdered rooting hormone and kept the soil wet for a couple of weeks and let it dry out a bit. It could be worth a try.
