Hello, My friend had some outside plants which she loved but her dog also took a liking to them, unfortunately he ruined them and she would like to replace them but is unsure of their name as she did not originally plant them. Can you please help identify from the photos attached? Please work around the naughty dog! :) Thank you.
I agree, the plants are/were peonies. However, I hope your friend's dog didn't eat the plants because they are toxic to dogs. She may want to reconsider replacing them if her dog is still going to have access to them!
If plants still present that small dog could be excluded with securely installed wire fencing. Something like this might be done anyway, as it would also serve to hold the flowers of the peonies up - when these plants are not supported it is usual for the double forms in particular to fall over as the flowers enlarge.
The best time to buy and plant is in the fall....not spring! Please tell your friend before she makes the mistake of buying early.
