This plant produces flowers along the stem which wilt away to become long pods, with seeds inside, any idea which family could it be?
I could be way off, bit it looks like night scented stock, Matthiola longipetala subsp. bicornis, Brassicaceae - or maybe some other stock. If that were the plant though, I would think you would have mentioned the fragrance.
It is not fragrant, but the flowers last long, and the leaves are long and pointed, these stalks shoot from the base and flowers are all along the stalk. I hope this description helps.
I don't have any other ideas, but the description of the plant's form fits night scented stock. I should point out that night scented stock has no fragrance at all during the day, but emits a strong sweet/spicy fragrance after dusk.
I found the fragrance quite by accident when I brought the flowers inside. I have tried germinating the seeds without success, how do you recommend I cultivate stock? Eric you were right the fragrance is absolutely mesmerizing!
My seed package for Night Scented Stocks recommends sowing at 3mm (1/8"), spacing at 6mm (1/4"), and misting until germination. Young seedlings often resemble weeds! If grown near an open patio or bedroom window, the heady scent fills the room all night. The fragrance usually begins at dusk.
