Can you identify this plant?

    Lions Bay, British Columbia
    My neighbour found a curious plant growing in his garden. It is tall and spindly, with numerous very short side branches (2-3 inches) along the entire stem. These short branches terminate in sets of three leaves (see pictures). We are puzzled as to what it might be.

    I agree with MichealF, looks like a Laburnum.

    Even has characteristic green bark.
