Help! I have a Grapefruit Tree as a house plant and it is getting too big! I planted a germinating seed from a grapefruit that I was eating a long time ago...probably about 1974 when I was reading The After-Dinner Gardening Book . I live in New England, it was Febraury, it seemed like a good idea at the time. Now, many years later, after this tree has moved with me and I have nurtured it for some 35+ years...it is getting too big. I have pruned it & repotted it & moved it outdoors for the summer repeatedly....but it is getting just too heavy. And each spring it suddenly tries to grow through the ceiling in an amazing burst of energy. In the winter, I decorate it as my Christmas Tree. I am attached to this tree and I do not want to toss it out to die after all this time. HOWEVER...it is blocking a lot of window light and there are very limited places that I can place it in my home. Any ideas....can I Bonsai it???
Am no bonsai expert, but I'd say that your tree would not take kindly to being bonsai-ed at its advanced age and stage of development. Is there a conservatory or botanical garden in your area that would accept your tree into its collection? In such a surrounding it would receive expert care and have the space it needs. Could you post a photo? Your achievement in keeping this tree in such good health for so many years is impressive! Good luck to you both, and welcome to the Forum.
