I bought these tulips a couple of 2 days ago. They were already opening up when I bought them. After the first night at my apartment their leaves started turning yellow, and the petal are falling apart. Can they be safe? someone help me please? They are the first plants I ever bought I don't want them to die. :-(

Even though the flower is gone, the bulb is still alive.
Do you have anywhere outside where you can plant it?

It will be a little hard in an apartment for an outdoor plant like a tulip. Try pruning the bloom stalk as soon as it's done flowering, then concentrate on growing the green leaves outdoors on your patio (you have one?). If you fertilize this year then you'll have nice blooms next year. Even if the leaves die in the summer heat, the bulb can keep growing underground. Make sure the pot stays watered all summe,r but they are very susceptible to root rot, so never let it sit in a tray of water and don't over-water. Let them freeze outdoors in the winter and they'll wake up at the right time next spring. :)

Thanks Tom. This is my first time growing plants. Trying to learn as I go. So, if I keep the tulip bulbs on the pot over the summer and winter with just water would I see flower next spring? I don't have a patio.

ermelin, tulips may not be the easiest choice for you, if you don't have an outdoor garden space. They will not rebloom without exposure to winter or refrigeration. I am afraid, as a beginner, you will find this project frustrating. Maybe you could find a more suitable house plant, so that you will be more likely to have success. If you like showy flowers maybe try a hibiscus or some begonias. See what is available at your local market. Consider the conditions of your apartment and ask for a plant that will suit them.

Thank Eric. I guess my dream to grow tulips will have to wait until get on a place with outdoor space. Can I grow Chinese hibiscus indoor?

Kalanchoe or Fibrous Begonia might be a better choice for an indoor
flowering plant at least until you've honed that green thumb a bit.
Hibiscus can be temperamental indoors (leaf and flower drop).
Flowering plants need at least a little sunlight (or well lit atrium)so
be sure you have adequate light available.

How about trying to grow an African Violet (Saintpaulia ionantha)? They're beautiful and they're EASY to grow.

I might try orchid. I just love tulips, I didn't know that they wouldn't survive on my apartment :-(. I'm growing Mexican sunflowers and Cosmos now.

Indoors? Neither will do well as both require full (≥ 6 hours) sun.

Cosmos inside? I was growing these deep pink cosmos last year and it died in the winter. Luckily, I saw some growing in my rock bed, so I pulled them out and put them in pots. I placed some inside the house and they ALL died. How are yours doing? I also have some outside growing, and although they have TONS of flowers on them, they are no longer pink. They are bright white with yellow center. Does anyone know why this has happened? I've googled it but found no information.
