Can anyone please identify this plant? My wife, who recently passed away, was particularly fond of it, and I'd love to be able to tell guests who inquire about it what it is. We have several of them planted closely together as a hedge, they stand about four feet tall and need to be loosely tied together to prevent the wind from knocking them over. It is a perennial that dies back each fall. The colour in this JPG doesn't do it justice, it is a bright orange, which contrasts nicely against the lovely fresh green of the leaves. The stems are also orange. I think that its Latin name may include a root for "fire". The deer don't even sniff at it, which makes it particularly valuable out in the hinterlands beyond Sooke. Thank you.
My condolences to you. This is so sad to hear. She still leaves in your heart and in her lovely plants, which probably called Euphorbia Griffithii Fireglow 'Spurge': http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/279674.html If not, the garden folks will correct me.
Thank you so much for this, Modirt and Andrey (and for your kind thoughts). I think you are right, it is Euphorbia griffithii. The common name Fireglow is probably what I was misremembering as being part of the Latin name. Cheers.
