It did look a little like one of the photos I saw, but when I looked up daedalea, the most common one seemed to be Daedalea quercina (on oak). The others most generally were on trees. This one was in the grass. I'm not sure that's a positive id... The second could be Thelephora terrestris (thanks for the lead!).
