They were found on the ground in my back yard in Fort Wayne Indiana. The soil content in that area is mostly clay. It looks like a little pod at the bottom, then a stem (the full sized one is white and feels like Styrofoam) and then there is a cap that has a green slimy consistency. That's Phallus impudicus (or similar). Check out http://www.mushroomexpert.com/phallus_impudicus.html. Enjoy them if you can, they are an interesting species.
