My wife and I just bought our house and this thing came up this summer in a raised planter we have. Being new to the whole plant/garden/lawn stuff we are curious what it is and are betting it's some sort of weed due to how it's growing. Well if you can tell us what it is we'd appreciate it. Thanks.

    Close-up photos would be helpful.

Thanks. I'm pretty sure we're gonna pull it out this afternoon then with no remorse that it'll turn into something pretty.

From a distant view , it appears to be a Russian Sage. Since I can't really confirm it, I would suggest you look up Russian Sage to see it it meets the criteria.

It's certainly not Russian sage, Perovskia atripicifolia.

    What new "pussy toes"?

    Ron B had it right.

Gnaphalium sp. Sounds a lot better than "cudweed".

Its not going to get any prettier.

I did some looking at it some more and it's for sure a variety of ragweed. My neighbor has about 4 different varieties of it growing in his flower beds and I am sure that is where it came from. Thanks for all the help.
