We bought this cactus from a plant fair not long ago but some contractors doing work at our house nearly decapitated the poor thing. We want them to buy us a new one but they can't find it and we need to identify it for them so they can get it. Its tall, actually doesn't have any stickers, has these funky marks up and down the trunk, and has soft, velvety-green large leaves. Your help is much appreciated. David
It's not a cactus, it's a Kalanchoe. Resembles K. daigremontiana or possible K. beharensis - but I've never seen one develop a trunk before! Very neat.
I just happen to have a few pics of Kalanchoe beharensis which include the flower and markings on the trunk!
Indeed, Lorax (and S.S.) is correct. http://toptropicals.com/pics/garden/m1/succulent/Kalanchoe_beharensis1534.jpg There are many species and several Kalanchoe hybrids.
The 33312 is the zip code for Ft Lauderdale, FL, USA. Subtropical to tropical, probably USDA zone 10.
