Hi everyone! My pothos was in a drainage planter for the past 3 weeks or so. Recent propagation from a friend! Plant looked good! I water it last week and the leaves are yellowing fast aswell as the roots are fuzzy looking and dark. I decided to isolate it and put it back in water as I find i cant quite get the hold of soil lol! Lmk your tips and tricks thankyou!

Welcome, Katriana. I'm not sure what a "drainage planter" is - is that the vase shown in your second photo? My understanding is that water roots are not soil roots. They keep the plant green for a while in water, but they don't pick up nutrients from soil. You need to let the plant tough it out in soil until it gets real roots. I think losing a leaf or two is not unusual, and even once rooted, it will continue to lose the oldest leaves as it gets new leaves. I find the game to be to try to get a cutting to take root and create new leaves before it loses all its original leaves. I can't tell, but if the node where the yellow leaf was attached to the stem was under the soil line, it would normally die. You want one or two nodes with the leaves removed to be buried in the soil.

I also wonder about the pot in your third photo. Does that just drip onto the floor when you water the plant? Or is there some barrier that prevents it doing that, that will make it difficult to know when there is water pooling at the bottom?

If the plant does die and you get to try again with new cuttings, plant them up in soil right away. You can buy a rooting hormone to help them get new roots, but that's not necessary.

Sorry I wrote that in rush. My container with holes lol and okay cool! I just researched the water vs soil root stuff. I think I will leave the yellow stem in water and not re pot it into soil as I dont want to stress it out. The others I propped and will let them get 1" roots and try again with the soil

And also I take down the hanging planter and do it over the sink. As I only have a few prop plants and have time to do so lol

I appreciate your input thankyou!! ♡
