    Hello,

we are about to renovate our 100 year old house. Unfortunately we have a 100 year old concord grape vine that needs to move in order to do this. This ancient grape produces amazing fruit still and the main vine has a circumference of about 15-20 inches. Any ideas?? I am not a very knowledgable gardener but the plants all seem to do well in our yard. The vine has just gone dormant but we don't have the ground freezing issues here on the island. We really don't want to loose our vine as it is lovely.

Yes if you dig during winter when leafless and get a decent root on it, handle it successfully afterward there should be no reason why it will not take the move and re-establish. Otherwise you could propagate it from cuttings - any that root and are made into new specimens will be clones of the original, the same plant living on.

Thanks Ron...so...what does handle it successfully afterwards mean and how exactly do I propogate or take cuttings. I am in pre-school level here but would like to learn how to do this properly so that we can make wine from our grapes...Also as it has done well where it was, South side of our yard, I will keep in south but what else will ensure it takes well? Looks like now is the time to move it. Can I also propogate it now too???
