Can anyone tell me what this is? Plant or Animal?

    My brother found this strange looking thing on his back porch in South Carolina. We are trying to figure out if it is a plant or animal. As you can see it is very small and it looks almost translucent. If anyone can help me figure this out it would be great.

    Looks like the moult from a caterpillar.
