I was wondering if anyone can help me out. I took some pictures of 2 plants and would love to know what they are? Thanks. http://i47.tinypic.com/r711zt.jpg http://i50.tinypic.com/hrwktf.jpg
First is a plane Platanus species, probably either London Plane Platanus × hispanica or American Plane Platanus occidentalis. Second is a Miscanthus species.
Dont think it could be American Sycamore Leaf (Platanus occidentalis) hun? This one didnt have the little bulbs like the london plane hanging.
Possible, yes. Since London Plane is a hybrid with American Plane as one of its parents, they can look very similar, particularly second and subsequent generation hybrids. They are most easily told by number of seed balls per flowerhead (1, rarely 2, in American; 2-3, rarely 1, in London). But that does need the tree to be old enough to be flowering / fruiting! Leaf shape can differ with London Plane usually having more deeply lobed leaves, but there is a fair degree of overlap.
