I was wondering if anyone can identify this cherry for me. It blooms in early April, before the leaves come out.

It looks like a Sargent cherry to me, with the 2-flowered umbels, single blossoms, roundish leaves with an acuminate tip. Prunus sargentii. We're using the Japanese name for this: o-yama-zakura.

If this ID is right, the bud scales should be sticky to the touch when they're expanding, and the leaf backs should be a bit whitish.
