I have searched in vain to try and identify this large (& getting larger) plant. The leaves are approx. 60cm(24in.) wide and the whole plant is just over 160cm(63in.) tall. It originated in a pack of seeds from the Canaries. Will it get much bigger?. Can it grow outside in the U.K?. Is it an annual plant?. It also has a large pod growing in the middle. Not sure whether this is a flower forming. Can anyone please help, before it takes over.
Hi Lila, Thank you for your quick reply, it has helped us know what to do with it before it takes over our home. We may try to plant it outside in our garden. Thank you again pammy UK
May not survive outdoors as far north as the Midlands .First frost of the winter will probably kill it. See.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ricinus_communis
Thank you for your help, we were thinking of trying it outside, but it is so big now we dont think we can keep it inside much longer.Maybe we can give it to local pub.Other people can enjoy it there. Regards pammy.
Just a word of warning, all parts of the plant contain ricin, a poison. See wikipedia entry in above post.
