This tree is located in the middle of some acreage we have. I thought from a distance that it had gold leaves but when I got closer I noticed that the tree only has flowers, no leaves on it at all. It started flowering about mid April. I am located in southern mid Michigan and this was just growing there, not in a yard or planted. I have not seen a tree or bush similar to this anywhere else. Can anyone tell what it is? Thanks for your time. Mara

I looked the cornus florida up on yahoo and agree that the flower is somewhat similar but all the pictures and descriptions described flowers and leaves where as this tree has absolutely no leaves. Does this make a difference?

I'm no expert, but that looks like a dogwood (aka cornus florida) to me.
