can any one tell me waht this is, i got the seeds from a client

i received this seed pod from a customer . they didnt know what it is. i planted them last summer(2005) and this spring they started to bloom.blooms got large and i never saw a open one. and then they fell off.but my girlfriend said maybey they are night bloomers ,so i brought one inside and within 2 hour of dark this is what i saw.i would dearly love to know what these very unusual flower is....thanx to from florida
