    Possibly a plum or cherry. Suspect you'll need to return to it in spring and get some pics of flowers and fresh foliage for a more definite ID.

    Probably purple-leaved plums.

    The strong suckering habit and fall colour suggest chokecherry, Prunus virginiana, which is extremely commonly-planted here in Calgary. What colour are the leaves in summer? What do the flowers look like?
