Hi Peeps this is my first post so be gentle with me! I've just purchased what I think is Calathea Medallion (???) and I wanted to get some tips on how to keep the plant humid! Winter is approaching and the heating will be going up a notch so I want some tips on how to keep this plant happy! The plant is currently housed inside a plastic plant pot (with drainage) which is resting on wet stones inside a fancy plastic plant pot (without drainage)! The fancy plant pot is then resting on wet oasis in a drip tray! Apart from misting is there any other ways to keep the humidity up in a normal household environment! Also any watering tips would be appreciated as I don't want to overwater! Thanks in advance!
Nice plant you have there! I can't help with the care of your plant, but there are some ways you can up the humidity level. Of course, you'll want keep it away from drying heat sources as best as you can, also lowering the thermostat will help raise the humidity You could set a table-top water fountain near by, or set the pot down inside a fish tank or, something like a large clear vase, glass or plastic using something like a plate to cover, or partially cover the opening. Either one would act as a mini greenhouse. Lots of people use humidifiers for their plants, personally, I'd be afraid for my walls!
I think as it gets colder and the heating gets higher I will have to keep misting to help keep it happy as it is quite a large plant!
