Hello, I purchased two calamondin plants in late August. At the time, they were very healthy plants: both of them had great foliage and one even had a few unripe fruits. I moved them into my apartment--temperatures were quite hot at first (end of summer), but quickly stabilized to a constant 18-20C; the plants have full light sometimes and at least partial light all day; I water them every 5 to 7 days. The nursery didn't provide any instructions as to how (or whether) to fertilize the plants, and I have not done this. Within a couple of weeks, the first plant quickly dropped its fruits, and then lost all its leaves. Now the second plant's leaves are falling off--some leaves have dried up, but other dropping leaves are apparently healthy. Do you have any suggestions as to how to rehabilitate the plants, and what could be the source of the problem? Thank you!
Many years ago I lost a calamondin when the temperatures got warmer during the growing season. I suspect the cause was low humidity levels. I was unable to keep kumquat trees alive before increasing the levels. Since the calamondin is a hybrid of a kumquat it stands to reason it would be similarly affected.
