cactus question

    I have a opuntia sublata that got black at the soil line so I cut is off and the centre of the stem has black in it can I root it or is this not normal

    I am pretty sure this is a fungal infection of the stem. I think its moreless dead. But I would post some pictures if possible and wait for someone else to post before throwing it out or anything.

    Good luck and hope its not dead

    will my cacti grow back ,it was about 2 1/2 thick and about 2 ft tall i had it held up with a tomatoe wire and it fell over and broke off i cut it off and now it has shriveled up and closed off and turn black will it come back

    Any blackened parts are dead and if there is a lot, the plant is probably dead. If there are whole healthy pads, you might try cutting them off, allow them to dry and cure a few days, then put the cut part in moist cactus soil and keep them in a warm place (not in hot sun) and they may root and form new plants. (This could take a few weeks or a month.)
