Can anyone point me towards some good information regarding the mineral/nutrient requirements of cacti and succulents?

I understand that they don't require nearly as much macro nutrients (N-P-K) as most other plants and overdosing is easily done. However, I've never ran across literature mentioning specific needs of cacti/succulents as compared to other types of plants.

I'm theorizing that in their natural habitat, where macro nutrients are hard to come by, there may be an abundance of micro nutrients (calcium, iron, copper, magnesium, etc) found within the sand, stones, and aggregate within the soil. However, considering the incredibly scarce amounts of moisture and beneficial soil bacteria, these micro nutrients may not be bio-available. Any thoughts on this?

Anyone think that cacti require a higher amount of calcium or silicone than other plants to produce their hard spines for protection?
