I must remove a large Cabbage Palm tree located by my pool because it is lifting the sidewalk concrete.

If I cut the tree down about a few inches below the surface and chop the stump with a pick ax, will that be sufficient to stop the roots from continuing to grow and do damage to the concrete?

    Your feedback is appreciated!

Cutting the palm anywhere below the bud will kill the tree
    and prevent regrowth.
