I posted a new thread yesterday but I am not able to find it so here I go again. We planted a large number of buxus Green Beauty last spring and in July one section turned a bronze colour, similar to Winter Gem. We checked the usual fertilizer, water and drainage conditions and as the problem did not progress, we watched! Now, in January we have another section far away from the original are doing the same. The only discovery we have made is that we are dealing with well water. The area also supports a large area of grapes below the residence. No other plants are showing similar signs. Can anyone shed some light on this,Thanks
I posted a situation with Buxus the other day and have had no replies. I have done some more research. While kyacking this weekend and observing the sealife on the limestone shelves, I had a thought, could the sporadic colour change be due to the leaching from the new rockwork? The search continues, thanks Aileen
Aileen do the plants look other wise healthy? could it be that the tags at the nursery got mixed up and so the plants were tagged incorrectly? see if the plants bounce back to being green in the spring and summer then you will know that the cultivar not the soil/water/fertilizer that is the problem. Take a small piece back to the nursery you bought it from and ask them to Identify or shed some light on it. maybe you are not the only one to have this happen
Pierrot, Thank you for your reply. I did take a sample to the supplier last year and was told they all came from one field.I will follow up with another sample. In answer to your question regarding the overall health, they are fine. Did you see my last post regarding leaching from new concrete? I see I goofed when I said limestone shelves when I meant sandstone,oh well it was a paddle perfect day. Aileen
