I just added nine 8'x4' raised garden beds and am looking for some nice soil to fill them with for my vegetable garden, does anyone have some recommendations? I did some searches and came up with a few suppliers, but with needing 15 cubic yards delivered, its coming out to be about $2000, is this really what its going to cost to fill these with organic vegetable garden soil, or can I use a more basic mix and ammend it overtime with my own organic material? I would like to begin planting veggies this spring.

If it helps the beds are built on top of a sand volleyball court which I am turning into a garden, so drainage should be excellent, does that mean I should go lower sand content in the soil I choose, or is it irrelevent?

I would buy a garden mix from a local supplier and for sure, keep ammending it over the years.

A full size dump truck will carry up to 18 cubic yards. The smaller ones that alot of the landscape supply yards use only carry up to seven cubic yards.

Call "Meadows Landscape" in Pitt Meadows on Lougheed Highway. I have seen that they have access to a full size dump truck.
My other supplier in this area is the "Landscape Centre Inc." in Coquitlam.
They use the smaller delivery trucks, so you would need two deliveries, plus....

I've calculated 15 cubic yards costing just over $500 dollars, plus a delivery fee. So, whoever you have spoken to is being greedy.

There are other suppliers of bulk materials out towards Mission.
