We planted a couple of plants outside in the front of the house (Calgary), in an area that is shady all the time. They really settled well (or so it seemed) but when flowers started to show I noticed the flower parts were (and continue to be) full of bugs. Can you point me in the right direction on how to treat that? If there is something that can be prepared at home that would be even better but if not, is there any brand of gentle spray I should look for? Thanks!!
Look for Aphid lion/Lace wings, or Ladybug and larvae. http://www.google.com/search?q=aphi...uLBHu-GsAKc48Uv&ved=0CB8QsAQ&biw=1025&bih=449 If you find them don't spray as natural controls are the best and easiest. If you must spray use Neem oil or insecticidal soap (I.E. Safer) homemade sprays can burn the foliage if used in hot/dry weather.
