http://uwahn.notlong.com 13 September 2007 Bug at Long Point Lake Erie. I took a few pictures of the clumps of bug. I didn't have my macro lens so didn't get a good close-up. The sheer number was astonishing.

Visiting Long Point today and going for a walk this bug was encountered. There were thousands of them and they have been in the vicinity for about three years, according to my companion. Apparently they eat the leaves of rhubarb, roses and Hostas. I only live about 70 km away and have not encountered this insect, anad would like to be prepared when it appears, which no doubt it will.

Does anybody know the name of this bug?

    Box Elder Bug.

13 September 2007. I found the name of this bug ( Box Elder Bug) on another forum. I notice all the posters were from Southern Ontario, so the range of this bug is quite extensive. Apparently the insect is rather harmless, more annoying than harmful to most plants.
