Please help with these bugs, It looks like a caterpillar? I have tried to use any chemical substance available from Loewe's and Home Depo stores, BAYER, ORTHO, brands + liquid soap and CuSo4 w/water solution, bugs they don't care. Bugs are back in a month or two, on the fresh leaves, Probably somebody knows what is this? Thanks in advance, TMAX
Two things: 1) for bug identification, visit BugGuide - they've an excellent system for browsing bugs 2) I highly, highly suggest identifying the pest first before attempting management. It is quite possible you've killed a mass of beneficial bugs, including ones that might possibly control this pest, with inappropriate or unneeded chemicals.
Daniel, Thanks, But the point is that I'm not able to identify this particular caterpillar, Can you help? thanks, TMAX
As I mentioned, BugGuide is the place to go to get identifications. They have a forums systems as well, dedicated to insects.
I might add that one of the safest ways to control catapillars is a bacterium-- Bacillus thuringiensis-- "Dipel" is one of the commercial formulations. It is pretty specific for catapillars and is not toxic to bees and other beneficial insects.
Did you find what works to rid the tree of these bugs, They are on my lemon tree eating the new growth. Thanks
The catapillar that is eating your lemon is probably the larvae of the Giant swallowtail butterfly. As I told Tmax last year the safest product is dipel --that is one of the trade names for bacillus thurengensis--it is a bacterial disease that affects all larvae of butterflies and moths but is not toxic to benificial insects or animals. Most garden centers should carry some form of it, but certainly you would find it at a farm or feed and seed store if you have those where you live. I have seen it at Lowe's and HD. You can certainly order it off the internet. I did misspell it earlier, it's-- Thuringiensis-- here is a link at Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/Bacillus-Thuringiensis-Thuricide-Concentrate-oz/dp/B0006IGZAK Skeet

The "bug" is called a Orange dog. It is the larvae of the Giant swallowtail butterfly. As Skeeter has stated there are many products to control them. http://www.oznet.ksu.edu/johnson/hort/Butterfly/GiantSwallowtail.htm
