We have a new Meyer lemon tree with about 5 fruits growing on it and I noticed that there are some spots on two of the fruits where something has eaten the rind. Any idea who/what enjoys munching on rind? (I live in Oakland, CA)
Hmm, could be mites, fruit flies, aphids, any small pest could be responsible. Hopefully the spots happened where it was being grown, or the place that sold it. If it happened in the your home, a good tool to have on hand is big a magnifying glass, or eye-loop, you'd be surprised a what you can see with those. In the meantime, you can try some insecticidal soap, or a couple drops of mild soap mixed with water in a spray bottles and spray the leaves real good once a week for two or three weeks and see if that doesn't help. For the last two or three yrs I haven't seen that problem on my Meyer yet and hope I don't!
Ooh, good idea with the magnifying glass--I'll try that along with the soap. I can tell that it's not wind/physical scarring, as the amount of nibbles increases every few days and moves around the fruits. Thanks for all the input!
