Hi, I've recently started an orange tree from seed. I'm not sure of the specific type of orange, but it was planted indoors last Fall. I've recently started moving it outside during the day but the leaves are starting to brow at the tips and in spots elsewhere on the leaf. There is new growth forming so it seems to still be relatively healthy, but I was looking for some feedback on what might be the cause and what I can do to avoid it, if anything. Also, is there anything I should do to ensure the plant recovers? You can see some pictures of it at http://www.joshlarocque.com/sickplant/ Regards, Josh
Without more information, it is difficult to say the true cause, however, it looks like fertilizer burn. Have you fertilized the seedling?- Millet
I did fertilize it when I planted it in the fall with a Miracle Grow for seedlings. I also fertilized it with some 7-7-7 a few months ago. My memory is failing me at the moment, but I may have fertilized it once more. Assuming that it has been over fertilized, what could I do to remedy the situation?
There is noting you can do to correct the damage, the damage will never re-green up. However, the good news is that all in all the seedling looks healthy. Citrus seedlings should be watered only in the early mornings, then placed in the sun so the very top of the soil dries. Early watering helps insure that the seedling does not die from stem rot. Fertilizing seedling citrus trees is beneficial, and should be applied only at 100 to 150 PPM or use Osmocote slow release fertilizer. - Millet
