Apparently west Hamilton is "ground zero" for this invasive insect in Canada. First noticed one a few years ago, then once or twice per year until this summer. Over the last few weeks I've seen several more, but last night there were no less than four at the side door. I contacted OMAFRA a few weeks ago about them and have done a little research. The ones that I've managed to capture have been destroyed (by freezing), but it looks like we're stuck with them. Last night there was a persistent "mild" skunk-like odour - which I guess will be the "new norm" during hot and humid summer nights?
