    Hello!

One of our local green-thumbs at work recommended me to this forum, and I've spent a few random minutes here and there reading as much as I can about 'native' lawn alternatives.

That said, I was hoping someone could recommend me a good reference (ideally with pictures!) of native lawn alternatives.

A bit more detail, if you're interested in my/our story:

We just bought a half-duplex in the city, and own our first piece of real lawn. I've always thought that owning a lawn required large amounts of mandatory labour to maintain, and grudgingly accepted it. Today a fellow at work started extolling the virtues of a native lawn, and it's definitely got me interested in something easier to maintain, and a little more indigenous -- biodiversity has a nice ring to it.

Anyhow, I *do* know that if these alternatives don't look somewhat neat and orderly, or can't be made comfortable for sprawling on the grass and reading a book with, my wife will probably veto the idea out right. Anyone with sage advice on convincing women out of their opinions -- or (which should prove much easier) a suitable replacement in native grass would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

The compromise would be a fescue lawn.
