The artist sketch that accompanied the short story on Breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis) in the 10/17 August issue of NEWSWEEk magazine is inaccurate. The sketch is actually of Artocarpus camansi, the breadnut tree. Since plant propagation issues are relevant in the distribution of breadfruit throughout the tropics, this bit of confusion should be mentioned.

My letter to the Editor was not printed.

Here's a link to the article, I believe -- but the web version doesn't have the illustration in question.

I suppose they don't have a corrections section in the magazine?

    Daniel,

Thanks for the speedy response. As a subscriber to NEWSWEEK, I keep track of corrections in subsequent issues. There were none. It may be possible for me to scan the original paper copy page showing the breadnut and send it to you. Be warned, however, that my computer skills are a bit shaky. In any case, your website seems to be pure dynamite, and I applaud its versatility. Good on ya' for making it so easy to join and to participate.

If you are interested, I have 80-90 Chronicles of a Footloose Forester that some people might enjoy reading. Only a dozen or so are about trees and agricultural crops, but if you have an interest, I can attach a couple of samples for your approval.
