I would like to plant an Elm tree in our backyard, which is not very big. I thought the Discovery Elm would be a perfect fit but none of the nurseries here in Victoria, BC, can get me one. There is another elm tree, the Brandon Elm, that is more available but is bigger than the Discovery Elm ( still much smaller than the American Elm ). The tree would be planted about 20 feet from the house, is that too close for the Brandon? The soil is predominantly clay and the location would be mostly sunny.

Plant a Chinese elm instead of one of these bigger types.

    Chinese elm, not Siberian elm.
