so I looked over at my tree about well an hour or so ago now and ... discovered something that disturbed me greatly ... it seems part of the branch has literally split open ... the green on it has sorta bubbled off and moved away from the inside ... oddly the leaves above it are still green and looking okish but I am worried I think I made some mistakes recently when transplanting .... its been over a week now but first I am curious what could cause this ... and second is it safe to plant it into a smaller pot ? will that save it if the bigger pot is too much ?

Please any help I can get would be apreceated as this plant means a lot to me ...and if it where to die I would be extreemly upset

There was mention in another forum of the possibility of bark split due to agressive growth. (We can safely discount it being freeze damage.) The split appears to be in the lower portion of the tree and only has a few leaves above it. Personally I would just remove it by making a cut above the first node below the split.

There shouldn't be more than roughly 1" of soil surrounding the tree's root ball. Repot if necessary. Is it a grapefruit seedling?

its about 3-4 years old so not sure if it counts as a seedling any more but yes ... and I am suspecting a repot might be a good idea I am just worried about it overstressing it cas it just had a repot recently

hmmm I think that could be doable even with my current limited budget would just need to find a place that sells those ingredients might take a week to get them all cas my transportation went and died on me recently

first off wanted to thank you guys for your help ... I went out today bought new soil
its a sphagnum peat moss, perlite sand mix ... the nice lady at the plant store helped me find it she also helped me get a smaller pot since i dont think my tree is nearly ready for a 5L bucket @_@. anyways ... I still do have some conserns naimly right now the fact that this is the second repotting within a 2 week period ... and I worry it might get sick or even die of stress *though I am hopeing liveing in the right soil will releave some of that stress*

anyways these are pictures of the new pot I think I possaboly planted it deeper then last time but its depth tended to change before when I watered

*yes I did the transplant at night*

one other thing I am curious about for anyone who knows ... I drink a LOT of coffie ... I know for a lot of plants they like coffie grounds would these be ok to give to this type of tree ? I have read that some mulches can make it sick
