Hello and Happy Gardening, I just want to say that I love this forum. I spend hours on here, just testing myself on the plant identifications. I do alright, but I feel like I just want to soak it all up! I was wondering if I could bother the plant masters and ask what plant books they recommend. I have the Reader's Digest houseplant book and the sunset houseplant book, but they are a little dated. I am just starting off and I feel the most comfortable with houseplants and succulents. Thank you for all of your time. You all rock!
The Audubon Society Field Guides to North American Wildflowers are an excellent resource; they cover great swathes of the wildflowers you'll encounter, and although they're not exhaustive they do provide at least basic clues for the more obscure endemic species. The Audubon Society Guides to Trees and the Guide to Mushrooms are also excellent. They're currently published by Alfred A. Knopf. If you're into Aroids, a membership to the International Aroid Society and their magazine Aroideana is invaluable, as is Deni Brown's Aroids - Plants of the Arum Family. The other books I'd likely reccomend are specific to South American and Ecuadorean plants, and I'm not sure how useful you'd find them.... For example, Useful Plants of Ecuador has bailed me out of several sticky ID situations, as has Ecuador Wildflowers Fieldguide.
Thank you so much! I will start looking for these books. I will also be back with about 7 or 8 plants to identify. Thank you.
