Is anyone familiar with the various Bomarea species from Peru? I photographed this guy back in April 2006: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ericinsf/137174532/ and thought maybe the botany nerds here might know! Thanks, -Eric in SF www.orchidphotos.org www.plantworld.org
I am not familiar with the varieties of Bomarea in Peru, but found this pdf file online showing a pic of Bomarea sanguinea, for your consideration: http://fm2.fieldmuseum.org/plantguides/guide_pdfs/098-01.pdf
Oh god, I love the Field Museum guides - I can get lost in them for hours. Thanks for showing me that one! It's not Bomarea sanguinea - the flowers are a lot smaller and not nearly as many in a head of flowers nor are they as pendant. Good try! -Eric in SF www.orchidphotos.org www.plantworld.org
Hi Eric, Just wanted you to know that I had a wonderful time viewing your Peru album. I spent 4 months there in 2003 and you brought back so many wonderful memories. Your photos are wonderful too! Newt
Newt, My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed them. Keep your eyes on www.orchidphotos.org - I am headed to Sarawak and Sabah, Malaysia (Borneo) during March - and will have an abundance of photos, I am sure! -Eric
