I am a container only gardener - Zone 8B - Nanaimo, B.C. I am planting 5 Blueberry shrubs of various types in wine half barrels in early spring 2010, using a soil mix of:
    5 part Fir mulch.
    1 Part Spagnum peat moss.
    1 part Perlite.
My question is to all the experienced blueberry growers out there is:
What fertilizer should I use?....How much should I apply?....At what intervals throughout the growing season should I apply?. I have an ample supply of homemade compost which I am hesitant to use as it may raise the PH of my soil mix. I also intend using a vinegar mix ( 1 cup vinegar - 4 litre water) occasionally ,to help keep the PH low.
All help and any criticism of the above will be greatly appreciated.....thanks...

Try a product labeled something like Rhododendron and Azalea or Evergreen Food. Ask for something suitable at a good independent garden center. Read and follow the directions on the container.

I am far from an expert but I do know that blueberries perfer there roots in a moist soil. They have a shallow root system naturally so it might be a good idea to install some kind of drip feed system.
