This wildflower was found just a few feet from a freshwater pond. It was in heavy grown up weeds and grasses in an open area. This area used to be a cultivated commercial grass farm. Just a few feet away on the other side of the flowers were many trees and thick underbrush. This was next to a wildlife sanctuary in Russellville, Arkansas. Photos taken 07-25-11. Photos taken very late in afternoon and the blooms seem to be under stress, wilting, due to the oppressive heat over over 100 degrees F. for several days in a row.
