Hi, I have bought a light colored what they call a blue rose, it is growing very well next to my pond garden but still has not bloomed. Is there something I can do to help encourage it to bloom, I really want to see the color.

I am no expert on roses, but I know that with many plants it takes a while for blooms to happen---the plant has got to reach maturity. How old is your rose?

Also, tell us how much light it is getting, in what sort of soil it is growing, how long you have had the plant and from whence did it come, etc. Do you fertilize---and, if so, with what, how much, how often? Any info can be helpful! Give us a photo if you can.

Glad to hear that it is doing well. My surmise is that it just needs some time to grow.

Long arching canes with no flowers at first is liable to be rootstock sprouts rather than the rose you bought grafted on top. In Yakima you might have had the blue rose freeze out, to leave the rootstock behind - unless you just planted it this spring.

Modern bedding roses such as ones sold as blue-flowering should be quite quick to flower on new growth of any consequence.

Ok I got the plant through a mail order and they sent it with bare roots, I cant remember the company they send according to the area and zone. It was about 12 inches tall above the roots and it has grown very well. It has grown out about 2 more feet, its very tall and keeps growing but no blooms have come yet. I wanted to show you pictures. There is no ailments that I know of yet. It just isn't blooming, It does get pond water off and on all the time, which I think is good fertilizer for it. I havent figured out how to download my pictures yet. I have tried its the plant closest to you tall branches out. I dont know if the picture will come up.

Don't use water that may be dirty, as from a small pond that warms in summer, maybe even stagnates - you can infest your plants with pathogenic water molds that rot and destroy the roots.

really? I thought pond water was rich in nutrients from the fish. Well I will keep that in mind. I don't intentionally add water from pond it just gets some from it. the plant looks great. No dead foliage, it just keeps growing out and no blooms.
